Other Food Resources
On-campus: You can find resources within the Laurier community compiled here. The Mini Market operates in King Street Residence and the Students’ Union Food Bank can help to meet students’ food security needs.
Off campus: Community members who are not current Laurier students can visit this comprehensive resource, the Food Access Community Resource Hub.
Image Description: Two people smiling are surrounded by greenery and a dozen square white raised beds filled with plants. A painted sign that reads “Food Justice” is in the foreground.
Food Justice Garden
Right outside of Distro is the Food Justice Garden. The Food Justice Garden is a learning space, dedicated to growing food sustainably. It’s a vibrant space filled with raised beds for growing vegetables, fruits and flowers for pollination. We even have a small greenhouse to extend our growing season into some of the colder months!
The Food Justice garden is a partnership between Luther's Centre for Earth Consciousness and Gender Justice and LSPIRG to give students an opportunity to learn about growing sustainably. The food grown here is distributed in our Distro program. The Garden is also funded by the WLU Sustainability Office and Dr. Mary Joy Philip's sabbatical on food security.
To get involved, please email foodprograms@lspirg.org. Follow us on Instagram to stay up to date on our weekly hands-on workshops that not only build land-based skills but also engage in conversations of the climate crisis, Indigenous sovereignty, and food security. All students and community members are encouraged to drop by — no experience needed!
