Full Job Posting for Outreach and Programming Director (Waterloo)

Position: The Outreach and Programming Director (Waterloo) is responsible for the successful coordination of LSPIRG’s programs, events and workshops on the Waterloo campus. They are responsible for hosting events on various social and environmental justice issues, as well as collaborating with the Organizational Development and Community Engagement Director (Waterloo) on running ongoing programs like Distro and the Food Justice Garden. They are also responsible for the outreach and promotion of the services that the organization offers such as events and programming, campaigns, volunteer opportunities and benefits available to members. They will design and execute recruitment and outreach campaigns and materials.

Reports to: Board of Directors

Location: The Outreach and Programming Director (Waterloo) will work in-person out of the LSPIRG main office at 165 Albert Street, Waterloo, ON. We regret that the current office provided by Laurier is not accessible – there are 2.5 flights of stairs.

Hours and Period of Employment
With 20 hours per week, this is a part-time permanent, unionized position with CUPE 1281.

Compensation: Starting hourly base wage as outlined in the Collective Agreement, which is currently $29.08. Health benefits provided.

Start Date: End of January 2026


Job Duties:

Volunteer and Action Group Coordination

  • Onboarding new volunteers and organizing member orientation meetings

  • Lead trainings and providing ongoing support for volunteer skill development, with support from the Organizational Development and Community Engagement Director

  • Encourage volunteers to provide ongoing feedback about organization

  • Supervising and supporting Waterloo volunteers and, as capacity allows, supporting Research and Action Group initiatives

  • Work to foster community between LSPIRG volunteers within their initiative as well as across other campus-based and community groups

Communication, Promotion, Outreach, and Organizational Representation

  • Design and execute recruitment and outreach campaigns

  • Write, design and publish posters, ads, promotional pamphlets, social media graphics and other outreach materials

  • Assist in managing the social media platforms for the organization, in collaboration with other staff

  • Compile, design and send out email newsletters in collaboration with other staff

  • Network with campus/community groups on common issues and campaigns, as capacity allows

Programming

  • Plan and execute social and environmental justice events on campus and in the community that align with the organization’s mandate

  • Collaborate with the Organizational Development and Community Engagement Director (Waterloo) on running ongoing programs like Distro and the Food Justice Garden

  • Documenting events and evaluating program attendance and effectiveness

Organizational Support

  • Attend relevant board and staff meetings, Research and Action Group meetings and committee meetings as capacity allows

  • Abide by and assist in implementing all LSPIRG policies

  • Provide relevant programming information for annual reports to the LSPIRG membership at the Annual General Meeting (AGM)

  • Familiarize yourself with all LSPIRG Memorandums of Agreement (MOA) and policies

  • Promote the Annual General Meeting and elections to members, action groups and core partners

  • Submit all expenses in accordance with established processes

Student Supervision

  • Assist in the supervision of student placements and student jobs in collaboration with the Board and relevant staff

Qualifications:

LSPIRG (General)

  • 2-3 years demonstrated experience in a related position or field (paid and/or unpaid work) is required.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are very important to this position.

  • Fluency and excellent skills in using the English language both written and verbal are essential in order to function effectively in the campus and Waterloo-Kitchener communities and to be able to deliver the services and programs as required. Having a second language is a desired asset.

  • The position requires a demonstrated understanding of and commitment to anti-oppression work and a developed analysis on the political, social and legal aspects of oppression.

  • Demonstrable knowledge, expertise and experience in community activism/engagement, especially in implementing activities that are geared to bring about social, political, economic, or environmental change are necessary.

  • Demonstrable skills and abilities are essential in the areas of computer software, financial management, and facilitating adult education.

  • Demonstrable skills in front-facing outreach and public engagement within public forums.

Position (Specific)

  • Ability to speak with confidence to large groups of people and various kinds of audiences to accomplish outreach goals.

  • Ability to convey and articulate complex social justice issues and comfort with politically charged subjects and conversations in public settings

  • Knowledge of diverse and creative outreach strategies and the ability to create an

  • executable plan of action to increase visibility on campus.

  • Ability to design dynamic and accessible graphics in various formats for outreach materials

  • In order to understand the needs of who they will be serving and have the necessary foundation for relationship-building, applicants must be a member of the Kitchener-Waterloo community.

  • Knowledge of Wilfrid Laurier University campus and community is an asset.

  • Ability to confidently facilitate multiple complicated projects at a time and to manage record keeping for several different campaigns and groups.

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends in order to accommodate the schedules of students, the Board of Directors, and OPIRG Provincial

  • G Drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle is an asset
