♥ BFFFs (best feline friends forever)

They dart in front of our feet and trip us when we're walking. They launch themselves against closed sliding doors when trying to attack a passing bird. They let us pet them for a whole twenty three seconds before trying to gnaw our hand off. They attempt to jump on tables and counter tops despite our countless efforts to prevent this, and yet we still love them! This sentiment may seem all too familiar to anyone with a BFFF (best feline friend forever), and though this is truly a post for those unashamed to admit the love they have for their cats, we also wanted to give a shout out to pet adoption! In Ontario, pet overpopulation is at a crisis level. According to the OSPCA (Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), tens of thousands of dogs and cats end up on the streets or in shelters every year. In shelters across Ontario, you're likely to see more cats than dogs because cats are twice as likely to be surrendered. In Kitchener/Waterloo the KW Humane Society has stated that prior to being in the shelter, cats are less likely than dogs to receive veterinary care, to have permanent identification, or to be reunited with their owner.

How can you help? If you have a BFFF, do the kind thing and spay/neuter him or her. This is the number one solution to helping reduce feline overpopulation. If you're ready to own a pet, absolutely consider adopting one of the hundreds of loving animals waiting for forever homes in local shelters. Alternatively, Humane Societies are always in need of financial support so you can help by making a donation.

In fact, the KW Humane Society is hosting a great event on June 12th-- the Just for Cats Film Festival will be held at the Princess Cinema and proceeds will go towards helping care for cats at the KWHS. Stay tuned to LSPIRG's Facebook and Twitter accounts to find out how you could WIN TICKETS! Who wouldn't want to attend? After all, cats are adorable, mischievous, hilarious little furballs. And we love them. ♥
